Overview
Stretching along the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania’s most scenic wildlife areas. The park is renowned for its vast soda lake, lush groundwater forests, and the chance to see the legendary tree-climbing lions, a rare behavior found in only a few places in Africa.
Lake Manyara is also a paradise for birdwatchers, with more than 400 bird species, including flamingos, pelicans, and storks that gather along the shimmering lake. Wildlife enthusiasts can spot elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, and playful troops of baboons.
Activities in the park include classic game drives, birdwatching tours, and cultural visits to nearby villages. Its compact size makes Lake Manyara an excellent day trip or stopover on the way to the Serengeti or Ngorongoro Crater.
With its diverse habitats, striking scenery, and abundant wildlife, Lake Manyara National Park offers an unforgettable introduction to Tanzania’s Northern Circuit.
