Mikumi National Park

Overview

Located between Dar es Salaam and the Southern Highlands, Mikumi National Park is one of Tanzania’s most accessible wildlife destinations. Often referred to as a “mini-Serengeti,” the park’s open grasslands and acacia woodlands create the perfect stage for incredible wildlife viewing.

Visitors to Mikumi can spot large herds of elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, and giraffes, alongside predators such as lions, leopards, and hyenas. The park is also home to hippo pools and over 400 bird species, making it an excellent destination for both game drives and birdwatching.

Thanks to its location along the highway to Zambia, Mikumi is an ideal choice for travelers seeking a short safari from Dar es Salaam or as part of a journey through the Southern Tanzania Circuit, including Ruaha and Nyerere National Parks.

With its rich wildlife, easy accessibility, and stunning landscapes, Mikumi National Park offers an unforgettable safari experience for first-time visitors and seasoned travelers alike.
