Tour Plan
Day 1: Arrival at Kigoma Airport – Jacobsen Beach & Ujiji Village
Upon arrival at Kigoma Airport, you will be picked up and transferred to Jacobsen Beach, where you’ll enjoy lunch and relax amidst the tranquil lakefront. Later, take a short drive to Ujiji Village, the oldest settlement in western Tanzania. Ujiji is historically famous for the 1871 meeting between Henry Stanley and Dr. David Livingstone, commemorated at the Dr. Livingstone Memorial Center. Explore the museum and the former slave route near the market before returning to Jacobsen Beach. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Jacobsen Beach and Guesthouse, a mid-range accommodation offering self-catering facilities and a peaceful lakefront setting.
Day 2: Transfer to Gombe National Park – Afternoon Chimpanzee Trekking
After breakfast, you will take a private boat transfer from Kigoma to Gombe National Park, arriving in time for lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, embark on your first chimpanzee trekking experience through Gombe’s lush tropical forests. Gombe is renowned for its protected chimpanzee families, and you will have the opportunity to observe these extraordinary primates in their natural habitat. The park is also home to vervet monkeys, baboons, colobus monkeys, forest pigs, dik-diks, and a wide variety of tropical bird species. Return to Mbali Mbali Gombe Lodge for dinner and overnight stay in a luxurious tented camp surrounded by nature.
Day 3: Full-Day Chimpanzee Trekking & Kakombe Waterfalls
Begin your day with breakfast at 08:00, followed by full-day chimpanzee trekking in Gombe National Park. Visit the Kakombe Waterfalls, enjoying the serene forest scenery and spotting wildlife along the way. In the afternoon, return to the lodge for a late lunch, then take some time to relax or swim in Lake Tanganyika, one of the world’s richest freshwater ecosystems with over 2,000 species of fish, including 500 unique species. Dinner and overnight stay at Mbali Mbali Gombe Lodge.
Day 4: Morning Chimpanzee Trekking – Jane Goodall Peak & Boat to Jacobsen Beach
After breakfast, embark on another morning chimpanzee trekking adventure, this time climbing to Jane Goodall’s Peak, named after the legendary primatologist who studied chimpanzees in Gombe. After descending, enjoy lunch at the lodge before boarding a boat back to Jacobsen Beach. Spend the evening relaxing by the lake; you can prepare your own meal or have assistance from the lodge chef. Dinner and overnight stay at Jacobsen Beach and Guesthouse.
Day 5: Jacobsen Beach to Kigoma Airport – Departure
After an early breakfast, you will be picked up from Jacobsen Beach for a transfer to Kigoma Airport. Your guide can also assist with transfers to the bus station or railway station if needed, marking the end of your unforgettable 5-day Gombe Chimpanzee Safari and Lake Tanganyika experience.
