Depart from Dar es Salaam in the morning and drive approximately five hours to Nyerere National Park, passing through scenic landscapes and rural villages along the way. Upon arrival in the afternoon, check in at Mloka Safari Lodge, enjoy lunch, and relax.
In the late afternoon, embark on a boat safari on the Rufiji River. Spot hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and a variety of birds while observing the park’s unique riverine ecosystem. The peaceful riverbanks provide excellent photography opportunities, especially during sunset. Return to Mloka Safari Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Nyerere National Park
After an early breakfast, venture into the heart of Nyerere National Park for a full-day game drive. Tanzania’s largest and one of the most pristine wildlife reserves, Nyerere is home to elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and many antelope species.
Explore a variety of habitats including woodlands, floodplains, and open savannahs. Your professional guide will provide insights into animal behavior, tracking techniques, and the park’s ecology. Stop for a scenic picnic lunch in the wilderness, then continue the game drive in the afternoon to maximize wildlife sightings. Return to Mloka Safari Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Walking Safari in Nyerere – Transfer to Mikumi National Park
Begin the day with a walking safari in Nyerere, accompanied by an armed ranger. Experience the sights, sounds, and smells of the African bush up close. Spot wildlife such as elephants, zebras, antelopes, and warthogs while learning about animal tracking and bush survival techniques.
After the walking safari, return to the lodge for breakfast, pack your luggage, and drive to Mikumi National Park via Morogoro. Enjoy lunch en route and take in the scenic views of local villages and landscapes. Arrive at Camp Bastian Mikumi in the evening, relax, and enjoy dinner. Overnight stay at the camp.
Day 4: Full-Day Game Drive in Mikumi National Park
After breakfast, embark on a full-day game drive in Mikumi National Park, often called “Little Serengeti” for its wide-open plains and abundant wildlife. Explore the Mkata Floodplain, a prime area for observing elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, wildebeest, and lions.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park amidst the wildlife and continue your game drive in the afternoon. Mikumi is also excellent for photography due to its expansive landscapes and diverse wildlife. Return to Camp Bastian Mikumi by late afternoon for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.
Day 5: Udzungwa Mountains National Park – Hiking to Sanje Waterfalls
Depart Mikumi after breakfast and drive to Udzungwa Mountains National Park, known as the “Galápagos of Africa” due to its high number of endemic species. Meet your local guide and embark on a hike to Sanje Waterfalls, which typically takes 3–4 hours round trip.
Trek through shaded tropical forests while observing unique flora, birds, and primates like the Udzungwa red colobus and Sanje mangabey. Your guide will provide insights into the park’s biodiversity, rare orchids, and medicinal plants. After the hike, return to the park gate and drive back to Camp Bastian Mikumi for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Mikumi National Park to Dar es Salaam
After an early breakfast, your driver will pick you up from the lodge and transfer you to Jakaya Train Station in Morogoro City. Board the train back to Dar es Salaam City and upon arrival, your transfer driver will take you to your hotel, ferry station, airport, or residence. This marks the end of your unforgettable 6-day safari adventure in southern Tanzania.
