Follow the Great Migration across Tanzania’s most celebrated wildlife landscapes on this seven-day safari. From Tarangire’s elephant-filled savannahs to the wildlife-rich Central Serengeti, the remote Northern Serengeti and the Mara River ecosystem, this journey is designed for exceptional game viewing and the chance to witness the migration at its most dramatic.
The Northern Serengeti is particularly rewarding from around July to October, when vast herds of wildebeests and zebras gather near the Mara River. River crossings are a natural event and cannot be guaranteed, but your guide will use current wildlife movements to position you in the most promising areas. The safari also includes the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park.
You will travel in a private 4x4 safari vehicle with a professional driver-guide.

Tour Plan
Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport – Arusha
On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, meet your Serengeti Steppe Travels representative and transfer to Arusha. Settle in at your hotel, relax after your journey, and receive a briefing from your guide about the safari ahead.

Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park – Karatu
After breakfast, depart Arusha for Tarangire National Park. The drive takes you through Maasai country before you arrive for a full-day game drive in one of Tanzania’s most scenic parks.
Tarangire is famous for its ancient baobab trees, large elephant herds, and the Tarangire River, a vital water source that draws wildlife throughout the year. Look out for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, impalas, warthogs, lions, leopards, and abundant birdlife.
After a picnic lunch and afternoon game viewing, continue to Karatu for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Karatu – Central Serengeti National Park
After an early breakfast, leave Karatu and travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward the Central Serengeti. Enjoy game viewing en route as the lush highlands give way to the vast plains of the Serengeti.
Arrive in the Central Serengeti, also called Seronera, for an afternoon game drive. This region supports exceptional year-round wildlife and is particularly known for its resident lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and large herds of plains game.

Day 4: Central Serengeti – Northern Serengeti
After breakfast, begin your journey north through the Serengeti. This is a full safari day with game viewing along the way, passing through expansive plains, woodlands, kopjes, and remote wilderness areas.
Arrive in the Northern Serengeti, home to the Mara River and one of the most important areas for the Great Migration. During migration season, large herds of wildebeests and zebras move through the area, often watched closely by predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas.
Enjoy an afternoon game drive before heading to camp.

Day 5: Northern Serengeti – Central Serengeti
Begin with an early morning game drive in Northern Serengeti, when the animals are often most active. Your guide will search the Mara River and surrounding plains for migration herds, predators, elephants, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, and other wildlife.
After breakfast, continue game viewing as you travel south toward Central Serengeti. The route is flexible and follows the best wildlife sightings available on the day. Arrive in Central Serengeti in the afternoon for further game viewing before returning to camp.

Day 6: Central Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater – Karatu
After an early breakfast, depart Central Serengeti and travel to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend 600 metres into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive in this extraordinary volcanic caldera.
The crater offers one of the highest wildlife concentrations in Africa. You may see lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, hyenas, jackals, and, with luck, the endangered black rhinoceros. The wetlands and soda lake also attract flamingos and other birdlife.
After a picnic lunch near the hippo pool, ascend the crater and continue to Karatu for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Lake Manyara National Park – Arusha / Kilimanjaro International Airport
After breakfast, depart for Lake Manyara National Park for your final game drive. Set beneath the Great Rift Valley escarpment, the park has diverse habitats including groundwater forest, open grasslands, acacia woodland, and lakeshore scenery.
Look out for elephants, baboons, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, zebras, impalas, and a rich variety of birdlife. Lake Manyara is also famous for tree-climbing lions, although sightings cannot be guaranteed.
After lunch and final wildlife viewing, transfer to Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight.
