Tour Plan

Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park – Karatu

Your safari begins in the morning with collection from your hotel or another agreed location in Arusha. After meeting your professional safari driver-guide, depart for Tarangire National Park, travelling through the countryside and small communities of northern Tanzania.

Tarangire is renowned for its ancient baobab trees, beautiful savannah scenery and large elephant population. The Tarangire River provides an important source of water for wildlife, particularly during the dry season when animals gather along its banks.

During your game drive, search for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes, impalas and warthogs. The park is also inhabited by predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs and spotted hyenas, although sightings depend on their movements.

Tarangire’s combination of grasslands, riverine vegetation, seasonal wetlands and acacia woodland also supports exceptional birdlife. Your guide will help identify the different animals and birds while explaining the ecology and natural history of the park.

After completing your game drive, leave Tarangire and continue toward the green highlands of Karatu. Arrive at your accommodation in the evening for dinner and a restful night.

Day 2: Karatu – Central Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, depart Karatu and begin the scenic drive toward Serengeti National Park. Travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, enjoying beautiful views of the surrounding highlands and the vast landscapes beyond.

As you descend from the highlands, the landscape gradually changes into the open grasslands that have made the Serengeti famous. Enter the park and continue toward the central region, known as the Seronera area, with a game drive along the way.

Central Serengeti is one of the park’s most productive wildlife areas. The Seronera River and surrounding valleys provide permanent sources of water, attracting animals throughout the year. The region is particularly well known for its large population of resident predators.

Look for lions resting on rocky kopjes, leopards hidden in acacia trees and cheetahs scanning the open plains for prey. You may also encounter elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, gazelles, topis and spotted hyenas.

Depending on the season and rainfall patterns, you may see herds connected to the Great Migration. However, the exact location of the migrating wildebeest and zebras changes throughout the year.

Continue exploring the Serengeti until evening, then travel to your tented camp for dinner and an overnight stay in the heart of the wilderness.

Day 3: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater – Karatu

Begin the day early with breakfast before departing the Serengeti. Enjoy a game drive as you travel out of the park, providing another opportunity to observe wildlife during the cooler morning hours.

Continue into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and travel toward the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. From the viewpoint, take in the spectacular scenery before descending approximately 600 metres to the crater floor for a memorable game drive.

The Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife destinations. Its grasslands, wetlands, woodland and freshwater springs support a remarkable concentration of animals within a relatively compact area.

During your game drive, search for wildebeest, zebras, buffaloes, gazelles, warthogs, hippos and elephants. Lions, spotted hyenas and jackals are regularly seen, while the crater is also one of Tanzania’s best locations for searching for the endangered black rhinoceros. Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, but the crater offers excellent game-viewing opportunities throughout the year.

The crater’s soda lake and surrounding wetlands attract numerous bird species, including flamingos when conditions are favourable. Your guide will explore the different habitats while sharing information about the crater’s geology, animals and ecosystem.

After the game drive, ascend the crater walls and continue to Karatu for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park – Arusha Airport

After breakfast, depart Karatu and drive to Lake Manyara National Park for your final game drive. Although smaller than the other parks on this itinerary, Lake Manyara offers varied landscapes and an impressive diversity of wildlife.

The park stretches from the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment to the shores of Lake Manyara. Its habitats include groundwater forest, acacia woodland, open grassland, hot springs and wetlands.

The groundwater forest is home to troops of baboons and blue monkeys, while elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes and different antelope species may be found elsewhere in the park. Lake Manyara is also famous for its tree-climbing lions, although finding them requires patience and good fortune.

The lake and surrounding wetlands attract numerous waterbirds. Depending on the season and water levels, you may see pelicans, storks, herons, cormorants and flamingos. Hippos can often be observed in the park’s pools and waterways.

After completing your game drive, leave Lake Manyara and travel back toward Arusha. You will be transferred to Arusha Airport for your departing flight, bringing your four-day wildlife adventure to an end.
