Experience one of Africa’s greatest wildlife spectacles during the Serengeti calving season. This five-day safari combines Tarangire National Park, the Southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara National Park.
From approximately December to March, the Ndutu area becomes a key part of the Great Migration as huge herds of wildebeests and zebras gather on the short-grass plains to give birth. The abundance of young animals also draws predators, creating exceptional opportunities to see lions, cheetahs, hyenas, jackals, and other wildlife in action.

Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park – Karatu
After breakfast, depart from Arusha for Tarangire National Park. This scenic park is renowned for its ancient baobab trees, sweeping savannah landscapes, and some of Tanzania’s largest elephant herds.
Enjoy a full game drive, following areas around the Tarangire River where wildlife gathers to drink. Look out for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, impalas, warthogs, lions, leopards, and a rich variety of birdlife. After a picnic lunch and afternoon wildlife viewing, continue to Karatu for dinner and relaxation.

Day 2: Karatu – Southern Serengeti / Ndutu Area
After an early breakfast, depart from Karatu and travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward the Southern Serengeti and Ndutu region. Enjoy wildlife viewing along the way as the highland landscape opens onto the vast plains.
Ndutu is at its most dramatic during the calving season, generally from December to March. At this time, enormous herds of wildebeests gather on the nutrient-rich short-grass plains, with thousands of calves born within a short period. The grasslands also attract large numbers of zebras, gazelles, and predators searching for an opportunity.
Arrive in the Ndutu area for an afternoon game drive before continuing to camp.

Day 3: Full-Day Game Drive in Ndutu
Spend a full day exploring the Ndutu plains and nearby woodland areas. Your guide will follow current wildlife movements to find the most active parts of the migration and the best predator sightings.
During calving season, it is common to see large herds of wildebeests with newborn calves, often alongside zebras and gazelles. The abundance of prey makes this one of the most rewarding times for predator viewing, with chances to see lions, cheetahs, hyenas, jackals, and leopards. Sightings are never guaranteed, but Ndutu offers outstanding wildlife density at this time of year.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush, allowing you to remain out in the wilderness for the full day. Return to camp in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Ndutu – Ngorongoro Crater – Karatu
After an early breakfast, leave Ndutu and travel toward the Ngorongoro Crater. Descend approximately 600 metres to the crater floor for a half-day game drive in one of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife areas.
The Ngorongoro Crater supports a remarkable concentration of animals within its natural volcanic caldera. Look out for lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, hyenas, and, with luck, the endangered black rhinoceros. The wetlands and lake areas are also home to flamingos and other birdlife.
After a picnic lunch near the hippo pool, ascend the crater and drive to Karatu for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Lake Manyara National Park – Arusha / Kilimanjaro Airport
After breakfast, depart for Lake Manyara National Park. Enjoy a final game drive through its lush groundwater forest, open grasslands, acacia woodland, and lakeshore habitats.
Lake Manyara is home to elephants, baboons, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, zebras, and abundant birdlife. The park is also famous for its tree-climbing lions, though sightings cannot be guaranteed. After lunch and your final wildlife viewing, transfer to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight.
