2-Day Luxury Safari: Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater

Your luxury safari begins in the morning with collection from your hotel or another agreed location in Arusha. After meeting your professional safari driver-guide, settle into your private safari vehicle and travel through the scenic countryside toward Tarangire National Park.

Upon arrival, enter the park and begin your first game drive. Tarangire is distinguished by its ancient baobab trees, expansive savannahs and the life-giving Tarangire River, which attracts wildlife from across the surrounding ecosystem. During the dry season, the park becomes particularly rewarding as large numbers of animals gather around its remaining water sources.

Tarangire is especially famous for its elephants, which can often be seen travelling in large family groups, bathing near the river or feeding beneath the baobab trees. Other animals commonly encountered include giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes, impalas, waterbucks and warthogs.

The park is also home to lions, leopards, cheetahs and spotted hyenas. Although predator sightings are never guaranteed, your guide will search carefully around riverbanks, woodland and open grasslands for signs of their presence.

Tarangire’s varied habitats support more than 500 recorded bird species, making it one of Tanzania’s finest birdwatching destinations. You may see colourful rollers, hornbills, eagles, ostriches and numerous waterbirds during the game drive.

After exploring the park, continue toward the Lake Manyara area. Arrive at Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge, where you can relax in comfortable surroundings and enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding landscape.

After an early breakfast, depart the lodge and travel toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive takes you through the fertile highlands before reaching the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater.

Pause to admire the panoramic view across the vast caldera before descending approximately 600 metres to the crater floor. Formed by the collapse of an ancient volcano, Ngorongoro is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and one of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife destinations.

Its grasslands, forests, freshwater springs, wetlands and soda lake support an extraordinary concentration of animals throughout the year. During your game drive, look for wildebeest, zebras, buffaloes, gazelles, warthogs, hippos and elephants.

The crater is home to a healthy population of lions, as well as spotted hyenas, jackals and other predators. It is also one of Tanzania’s best places to search for the endangered black rhinoceros, although sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Depending on seasonal conditions, the crater’s wetlands and Lake Magadi may attract flamingos and other waterbirds. Your guide will explore the different habitats and share information about the crater’s geology, ecosystem and wildlife.

After completing your game drive, ascend the crater walls and begin the journey back to Arusha. You will be transferred to Arusha Airport for your departing flight, marking the end of your two-day luxury safari.
