A safari company should be defined by its guides — not its marketing.

Southern CircuitFrom private mobile camps at the wildlife front to luxury crater-rim lodges and Indian Ocean beach properties.
Accommodation is not incidental to a Tanzania safari — it is central to it. The camp or lodge determines your proximity to wildlife, your access to remote areas, the quality of the guiding, and the texture of the experience that surrounds the game drives. A poor accommodation choice can undermine an excellent itinerary. A great choice can elevate everything.
Tanzania safari accommodation exists across a wide spectrum: from sole-occupancy mobile tented camps with private chefs that move with the migration, to fixed luxury lodges on the crater rim with views into the Ngorongoro caldera, to mid-range tented camps with shared dining and a consistent wildlife programme, to basic public campsites for budget travellers. Each category has its place and its ideal guest. Understanding which category is right for you is the most important accommodation decision you will make.
Kisangara personally visits every property it recommends. We do not rely on wholesale travel agent relationships or commission structures to determine our recommendations. We have direct relationships with camp managers and lodge owners built over fifteen years. When we recommend a property, it is because a member of our team has been there, eaten there, slept there, and confirmed that the guiding quality, the food quality, and the camp experience are at the level we would accept for ourselves.
A mobile tented camp set and operated exclusively for your party — typically two to four people. The camp includes a sleeping tent with proper beds and en-suite bucket shower, a dining tent, a lounge tent, and a dedicated cook, camp manager, and guide team. The camp moves with the migration or season, positioned at the best wildlife access point at each phase of the year. No other guests. No shared meals. No schedule determined by group consensus. This is the purest form of Tanzania safari — and the most expensive.
Fixed luxury tented camps with permanent infrastructure — proper beds, flush bathrooms, hot showers, high-quality food, and excellent guiding programmes. Properties like Singita Grumeti, Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, and the seasonal northern Serengeti camps set the standard. Guest numbers are limited, guiding is dedicated, and the properties are positioned for wildlife access. This category delivers the best combination of comfort, location, and wildlife quality for most guests. Pre-booking twelve to eighteen months in advance is required for peak season.
Mid-range camps offer tented accommodation with en-suite bathrooms, shared dining, and a standard guiding programme using camp guides and shared vehicles. Properties in this category — Ikoma Bush Camp, Serengeti Serena, Ngorongoro Sopa — deliver a genuine safari experience at accessible price points. The guiding quality is typically lower than luxury properties, vehicles are shared between multiple guests, and the programme is less flexible. A solid entry-level to Tanzania safari with real wildlife access.
Tanzania's public campsites in the national parks allow independent travellers to camp within the park boundaries — the most affordable way to experience Serengeti wildlife. Basic facilities, no frills, genuine wildlife access. Budget tented camps (Kati Kati, Ubuntu Migration Camp budget option) provide basic accommodation with a guiding programme at entry-level prices. For guests with limited budgets and high wildlife expectations, careful camp selection in this category can deliver a genuine and memorable experience.
"We chose the mobile camp option and did not understand what we were choosing until we arrived. There was no one else. Dinner was at a table set in the bush with a lantern and the sound of the Serengeti. I have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world. This was different."
William H.London · Sole-Occupancy Mobile Camp · 2024"We went mid-range in Tarangire and luxury in the Serengeti — Kisangara's recommendation. The Tarangire camp was excellent for the price and the wildlife was extraordinary. The Serengeti camp was the finest tented accommodation I have encountered."
