A safari company should be defined by its guides — not its marketing.
Why KisangaraAfrica’s largest protected ecosystem — at 5% of the visitor density.
Southern CircuitOur Arusha office has been at the same address for sixteen years.
Kisangara Tours is based in Arusha, Tanzania — the gateway city for the Northern Safari Circuit and the base for all Kilimanjaro and Northern Tanzania operations. Our office is located on Sokoine Road in central Arusha, ten minutes from Arusha International Airport and four kilometres from the Arusha National Park entrance.
Arusha sits at 1,400 metres on the southern slopes of Mount Meru — a cool, green city that is the organisational hub of Tanzania safari. The Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) is forty-five minutes east of the city and handles all major international arrivals. Arusha itself has excellent restaurants, accommodation across all price points, and the Arusha Cultural Heritage Centre with the largest collection of Tanzanian art and artefacts outside of Dar es Salaam.
Most Kisangara safaris begin with an Arusha overnight — either the night of arrival or the night before departure to the parks. We recommend at least one Arusha night to allow jet lag recovery before the first game drive, to meet your guide, collect equipment, and confirm all arrangements. Our office in Arusha handles all pre-departure briefings, equipment checks, and any last-minute itinerary adjustments. Guests are met at the airport on arrival and transferred directly to their Arusha accommodation by a Kisangara driver.
The Kisangara office is available for in-person consultation for guests who are visiting Arusha in advance of a booking. If you are passing through Arusha and would like to meet the team, discuss an upcoming trip, or review equipment for a Kilimanjaro climb, contact us in advance and we will arrange a meeting time. The office holds a lending library of Tanzania field guides, maps, and natural history references available to guests during their stay.
Kilimanjaro International Airport (IATA: JRO) is the primary entry point for Northern Tanzania safaris. International flights connect via Amsterdam (KLM), London (various via Nairobi), Doha (Qatar Airways), Dubai (Emirates), and Nairobi (Kenya Airways, multiple daily). The airport is 45km east of Arusha. Kisangara provides airport transfer for all guests — your driver will meet you at the arrivals gate with a name board. Transfer time to central Arusha: 45–60 minutes.
We work with several Arusha properties across price categories: Arusha Hotel (central, colonial-era, reliable), Mount Meru Hotel (mid-range, good gardens, central), Onsea House (boutique, recommended for one-night pre-safari stays), and several lodges on the outskirts with Meru views for guests wanting a quieter pre-safari atmosphere. All Arusha overnight stays can be arranged by Kisangara as part of the full itinerary booking.
The Arusha National Park is twenty minutes from the city centre and offers a half-day game drive with giraffe, zebra, buffalo, and the black-and-white colobus monkeys of the montane forest. The Cultural Heritage Centre houses an extraordinary collection of East African art and the largest jewellery selection of Tanzanian gemstones. The Maasai Market at the Clock Tower operates Thursday and Sunday mornings. A Chagga cultural walk can be done as a half-day from Arusha.
The pre-safari briefing with your guide happens either at the Kisangara office or at your Arusha accommodation on the evening before departure. The briefing covers: the day-by-day programme, what to expect in each park, vehicle arrangements, photography logistics, and any last questions about equipment or preparation. This meeting is typically 45–60 minutes. Your guide uses it to understand your specific interests before the first game drive.
