Safari Style: Private expedition safari (drive + internal flights)
Vehicles: 4×4 Land Cruisers & scheduled light aircraft
The 14 Days Tanzania Safari: Northern, Western, Southern & Eastern Explorer is a refined safari expedition created for travelers who seek depth, distinction, and a true sense of exploration. This journey is not designed around convenience alone, but around privileged access to Tanzania’s most iconic and remote landscapes, delivered with seamless logistics, expert guiding, and understated luxury. It is ideal for experienced safari travelers, luxury explorers, photographers, and curious minds seeking both comfort and context.
This safari is intentionally navigational and educational, moving across Tanzania in a way that mirrors the country’s natural geography.
Northern Circuit: Volcanic highlands, classic savannahs, dense wildlife
Western Circuit: Remote ecosystems, minimal tourism, raw Africa
Southern Circuit: Vast protected wilderness, rivers, predators
Eastern Circuit: Open plains and ecological transition toward the coast
Best Time to Travel & Seasonal Expertise: June – October: Prime season; ideal for all circuits, especially Southern & Western parks January – March: Excellent wildlife activity, greener scenery in the north November – December: Fewer crowds, lush landscapes April – May: Best avoided for Western Circuit due to heavy rains Southern and Western Tanzania shine during the dry season, while the Northern Circuit remains productive year-round due to permanent water and established ecosystems
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to Arusha, Tanzania’s safari capital. This first day is intentionally relaxed, allowing recovery from international travel while enjoying views of Mount Meru and lush highland surroundings. Your guide introduces Tanzania’s geography, safari etiquette, wildlife behavior basics, and the logic behind the four safari circuits you will explore.
Overnight:Gran melia
Tarangire introduces the safari with vast savannahs dotted by ancient baobab trees. The Tarangire River acts as a magnet for wildlife, particularly large elephant herds. Game drives focus on understanding how water availability shapes animal movement and predator concentration. You will be taken to your luxury accomodation in the park for dinner after that you may have an adventurous night game drive.
Overnight:Lake Burunge Tented Lodge
The journey climbs into volcanic highlands before descending into the Ngorongoro Crater one of the most wildlife-dense places in Africa. The enclosed ecosystem allows close observation of predator-prey dynamics, conservation challenges, and species coexistence. As the sun sets you will ascend for overnight.
Overnight:Ngorongoro Rim Lodge
Leave the Ngorongoro rim or Karatu early to stay ahead of any gate delays and keep your schedule flexible, then make a quick crater rim viewpoint stop for photos and that first “wow” moment without losing much time. Continue toward Serengeti with an optional but highly worthwhile break at Olduvai Gorge a perfect “time buyer” that adds real value (history, small museum, short walk) while naturally breaking the long drive. By late morning you’ll reach Naabi Hill Gate for entry formalities plus a hilltop viewpoint where you stretch your legs and get your first big look over the endless plains. After that, use picnic/packed lunch at or near Naabi (or shortly after entry) to control your arrival time, then continue with a relaxed “soft game-drive” transit toward Central Serengeti (Seronera)this is where the transfer stops feeling like a road trip and starts feeling like safari, with wildlife stops on the way. Aim to reach camp for afternoon check-in , settle in with a late lunch or short rest, then head back out for a classic sunset game drive when the light is golden and predators often become active.
Overnight;Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge
A full day in the Serengeti gives you time to explore properly, not just “drive through.” Start with an early morning game drive when predators are still active and the plains are cool perfect for tracking lion prides, cheetah movement, and the way herbivores gather and shift with the light. After a relaxed lunch and short rest at camp, head back out for an afternoon game drive to follow animal movement patterns, watch hunting behavior when opportunities rise, and focus on seasonal highlights such as riverine areas, kopjes, and (when timing is right) sections of the Great Migration. As the sun drops, the scenery turns golden and sightings often peak again before returning to camp for dinner and a calm evening under the stars.
Overnight;Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge
Morning — Final Serengeti Moments + Airstrip Transfer
Start your day with a calm Serengeti sunrise and breakfast at camp, then pack up for your flight west. Your guide will time the departure so you arrive at the airstrip without stress usually 60–90 minutes before takeoff for check-in, luggage weigh-in, and a quick briefing. On bush flights, luggage limits are strict, so keep your bag light and soft-sided (duffel style). For example, Coastal A including carry-on, with soft bags recommended. Board your light aircraft and lift off over the Serengeti one last aerial view of the plains before the landscape changes. Expect a travel window of roughly 4–6 hours.
Arrive in Katavi and First Game DriveLanding at Katavi feels different: fewer buildings, more space, and that “edge-of-the-map” atmosphere. You’ll be met at the airstrip by your Katavi camp team/guide, then begin your first game drive straight away because in Katavi, wildlife doesn’t wait for you to settle in. Your afternoon drive focuses on the park’s signature feel: wide open plains, river systems, and big game moving without the “traffic” you may be used to in the Northern Circuit. This first drive is usually about orientation learning the key wildlife zones near your camp while still chasing real sightings.
Evening Sundowner Calm, Dinner, and Katavi Night Sounds Arrive at camp in time to freshen up before sundowner. As the light drops, the bush quiet becomes powerful then the night soundtrack begins: hippos, distant lions, and the raw stillness that makes Katavi famous among experienced safari travelers. Dinner is served in camp, and your guide will outline tomorrow’s plan (Katavi rewards early starts and long, unhurried drives).
Overnight:Mbali Mbali Katavi Lodge
Start with a dawn game drive when Katavi is cool, quiet, and at its wildest your guide follows fresh tracks and movement from the night, scanning plains and riverbeds for predators finishing hunts, lions settling in the soft light, and elephants moving toward water before the heat builds. Late morning, enjoy a bush tea/brunch break to recharge and reset, then continue with a relaxed afternoon drive focused on shaded zones and water points, where hippo pools, elephant gatherings, and sudden predator moments often unfold. As sunset approaches, the light turns golden and wildlife becomes active again, before you return to camp for a shower, dinner, and a peaceful night under the sounds of the bush.
Overnight:Mbali Mbali Katavi Lodge
After breakfast in Katavi, you’ll say goodbye to big-game wilderness and head to the airstrip for your flight west toward Lake Tanganyika. The morning feels calm and purposeful bags checked, cameras ready, and one last look at the plains before you lift off. As the aircraft climbs, Katavi’s vastness falls away beneath you, and the view shifts into a mosaic of remote landscapes, rivers, and distant ridgelines Western Tanzania in its purest form.By afternoon, you arrive in the Mahale region where the atmosphere changes completely. The air is cooler and more humid, the scenery greener, and the lake stretches like an ocean at the foot of the mountains. After landing, you’ll transfer to your lodge (often with a short drive and/or a boat hop along the shoreline, depending on your camp’s location), then settle in and slow down. This is your “recovery day” after safari drives time to shower, recharge, and let the place sink in.
In the evening, Mahale delivers its signature welcome: a Lake Tanganyika sunset. The water turns gold, fishing boats drift quietly in the distance, and the mountains hold the last light like a silhouette. You’ll enjoy dinner back at camp with the lake breeze in the background, then rest early tomorrow is the beginning of chimp trekking, and Mahale rewards fresh energy.
Overnight:Mbali Mbali Mahale
Mahale begins with a different kind of safari energy quiet, humid forest air, waves gently tapping the shoreline, and the sense that you’re about to walk into a world that feels untouched. After an early breakfast, you meet your ranger-guide for a short briefing on tracking etiquette, safety, and how the chimp experience is managed. Then you step into the forest trail, moving slowly as your guide reads signs fresh knuckle marks, broken branches, distant calls, and feeding remains until the moment the chimpanzees are found. When it happens, it’s intense and unforgettable: you’re close enough to feel the presence, but respectful enough to keep the wildness intact. As you follow the troop, the trek can shift from easy to steep quickly Mahale’s terrain is known for hills and dense vegetation so the experience feels earned. Some days you’ll watch grooming circles and playful juveniles; other days you may witness quick movement through the trees or powerful displays that remind you these are wild primates. Your guide manages your positioning and time so the encounter stays safe for both guests and chimpanzees. After the trek, you return to camp for lunch and downtime this break matters, because it lets you recover and enjoy the day rather than simply “survive” it. In the afternoon, the pace becomes soft and luxurious. You can choose a gentle lake activity swim where your camp confirms it’s safe, paddle or take a short boat ride along the shoreline, or simply relax on the beach with the mountains behind you. Later, as the sun lowers, the lake turns calm again and the day feels complete: forest adventure in the morning, lakeside peace in the afternoon, and a warm dinner at camp as the night settles over Tanganyika.
Overnight:Mbali Mbali Mahale
Ruaha rewards travelers who give it time the park feels raw and powerful, with wide open spaces, ancient baobabs, rugged river systems, and far fewer vehicles than the northern circuit. Today is a true safari day: an early start and long, unhurried drives that let you follow wildlife stories instead of rushing between sightings. Head out at dawn in prime predator hours, focusing on riverbeds, seasonal streams, and open plains where tracks are fresh and lions, elephants, and plains game are most active plus the best light for clean, warm photography.Take the “energy protection” window for lunch and rest (back at camp or a bush picnic depending on style and rules), giving you time to hydrate, shower, recharge cameras, and still enjoy quiet action if your camp overlooks a river or waterhole. , return for a late drive as the heat fades and animals move again Working shade and water first, then broader circuits for elephants, giraffes, and predator zones before finishing in golden hour when Ruaha turns cinematic with dust, long shadows under baobabs, and a calm, private-feeling wilderness, then back to camp after sunset for dinner, fire stories, and a short briefing for tomorrow.
Overnight:Ruaha River Lodge
After an early breakfast in Ruaha, you’ll check out and transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Nyerere National Park. This is one of those classic Tanzania “inter-park” days where the journey itself feels like an upgrade leaving the dry, rugged southern plains behind and flying toward the river-fed wilderness of Nyerere. Your camp team will already have your flight details, so the morning runs smoothly: light aircraft check-in, luggage weigh-in, and then takeoff over vast, remote landscapes. Most routing into Nyerere uses a network of bush airstrips rather than a single airport, with Mtemere Airstrip commonly used for many lodges others include Siwandu and more. On arrival at Mtemere Airstrip, your guide meets you for a warm welcome and a scenic transfer into camp. Some properties note that camp transfers from Mtemere can take around about an hour depending on camp location and road conditions inside the park., enjoy lunch, and take a short rest because Nyerere shines in the late afternoon when the light softens and wildlife begins moving again.Later, you’ll head out for your first Nyerere safari activity. Depending on your camp’s program and water levels, this might be an evening game drive through the open woodland and lakes, or a relaxed Rufiji River–style experience if your lodge offers it boat safaris are a major signature of the destination. As the sun drops, the landscape turns golden and still elephants often appear like silhouettes between trees, and the air carries that river-wilderness feeling that’s completely different from Ruaha. You’ll return to camp for dinner, then unwind under the stars.
Overnight;Serena Mivumo River Lodge
Morning – Sunrise Game Drive (Best Predator & Action Hours
You’ll wake up while the air is still cool and the bush is quiet—then head straight into Nyerere’s wide, wild landscapes for an early morning game drive. This is when the park feels most alive: lions finishing their night movement, hyenas slipping back into cover, and elephants crossing open plains before the heat arrives. Your guide will work the river edges, floodplains, and woodland tracks—watching for buffalo herds, giraffes, hippos, and the small stories too: birds hunting, fresh tracks, and the sudden stillness that usually means something big is nearby. Afterward will have Breakfast picnic/coffee stop in the bush. As the morning fades away the sun climbs up, and this is when you do safari the smart way. You return to camp for a proper lunch, then slow down nap, read, sit by the view, or enjoy a quiet moment listening to the river and birds. This break isn’t “lost time”; it’s how you stay fresh and enjoy the afternoon when the wildlife starts moving again.
You can either Choose Game Drive or Boat SafariThe afternoon drive is all about warm light, longer shadows, and animals rising to feed. You’ll often find elephants gathering near water, impala and zebras stepping into open areas, and a new chance for predators especially near river crossings and game corridors. If you choose the boat safari, this is the calm, cinematic side of Nyerere. You cruise along the water watching hippos, crocodiles, elephants on the bank, and an incredible parade of bird’s fish eagles, kingfishers, herons, and more. It’s peaceful, intimate, and perfect for photos because you’re close to the action without engine noise and dust. You return to camp as the day fades into deep safari blue freshen up, enjoy a drink by the fire, and share the day’s highlights. Dinner is warm and unhurried, and the night sounds remind you: Nyerere never really sleeps
Overnight;Serena Mivumo River Lodge
